Abstract
Railway safety is a crucial aspect of rail operation. The study focuses on the railway level crossing problems in the region and effective protection systems. It examines the problems in India, Republic of Iran, the Russian Federation and Viet Nam, and provides examples of safety performance and effective safety measures in selected developed countries. It concludes with the comparative analysis of railway safety performance in developing and developed countries and recommendations for the railway managements in dealing effectively with level crossing problems.
