Committee on Energy, Third Session
The Third Session of the Committee on Energy will be held from 24 to 26 February 2021 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Committee session will also be held virtually via videoconference. Bangkok-based representatives from member States and international organizations are welcome to participate in person at the ESCAP Hall, United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok.
The Committee will be organized under the theme “Energy transition for a greener, more resilient and inclusive energy future in the Asia-Pacific”. It has the overall objective to review and discuss relevant issues on energy transition in the time of COVID-19, to provide guidance and propose areas for regional cooperation that contribute to enhancing the security and resilience of the region’s energy systems.
The Committee will provide a platform to review the progress made towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goal 7 on energy, address regional and national policies and measures that have supported achieving targets on energy access, renewables and efficiency.
Further the Committee will review the draft regional road map on power system connectivity: promoting cross-border electricity connectivity for Sustainable Development as requested by the Commission at its 76th session. The Committee will deliberate on the implementation of its work and the Subprogramme on Energy in the intersessional period, review the activities of the expert working groups and provide guidance on their further work.
The Committee will also initiate the preparatory work for the Third Asian and Pacific Energy Forum, to be held in 2023.The outcome of the Committee will, in addition, inform the seventy-seventh session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
